IMTS is a partnership between Alan Stead (Consultant/Trainer) and Doreen Stead (Office Manager).
Our Training Consultants have experience in the public sector and therefore understand the business requirements from a practitioner's point of view. Our main speakers are:-
Alan Stead
Partner and Main Information Rights Speaker
Alan is a partner in IMTS and has worked in the public sector both in Central Government and in a major Unitary Local Authority since leaving full time education. He was involved in the introduction of the Data Protection Act 1984 in his authority and worked full time in the area of Information Rights since 2000 being responsible for the Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and Reuse of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005. He was also lead disclosure officer to the courts for criminal cases.
He is one of two external examiners in the Masters at Law degree in Information Rights at Northumbria University and is responsible for the data protection, environmental information and data sharing elements of the course. Alan is also on the editorial board of the Information Rights Journal published by the University.He also does the occasional guest lecture in these areas both at Northumbria and Nottingham Trent Universities.
He is on the Executive and currently is Chair of the National Association for Information Management (NAIM) and also chairs the Midlands regional group of Public Sector organisations which relates to Information Management. On the invitation of the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) Alan represents NAIM and non central government public bodies on several Government Panels. These include Information Rights Qualifications and Standards Group, Freedom of Information Sector Panel, Human Rights and the group on the codes of practice on Environmental Information. He is also a founder member of the National Information Rights Forum.
Alan is a speaker at national conferences and has carried out training in Information Rights across the country including London, Birmingham, Bristol, Belfast, Edinburgh, The Midlands and the South Coast. He has also appeared on interviews on local and national BBC TV discussing Information Rights and also discussion forums on SKY TV.
He holds a BSC in Computing Studies and a City and Guilds teaching certificate as well as being a Home Office accredited single point of contact under RIPA.
In addition he is author of the book "Information Right in Practice" which is published by Facet .
Philip Jones
Speaker in Records Management
Philip Jones is currently Head of Information Governance for Staffordshire County Council where he has corporate responsibility for enterprise content management and is responsible for managing five corporate teams dealing with records and information management, information legislation and the corporate EDRM implementation for 9,000 staff. The Information Governance Unit currently employs 25 professional staff supporting the council in all aspects of information management.
Philip has twenty five years experience as a records and information management professional working extensively in the UK public sector and also as a private consultant. He is a history graduate and holds a masters degree in Information Management and an MBA.
Philip has been involved with record and document standards for over ten years and is a co-editor of ISO 15489 International Records Management Standard. He is currently Chairman of the BSI Archives & Records Management Committee (IDT 2/17). He is author of BIP 0025-3 in the BSI Effective Records Management series, a publication dealing with performance management within record management programmes.
In November 2000 he was appointed the first ever UK Visiting Professor of Records Management by the University of Northumbria where he teaches on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses both on campus and through the internet. He has written numerous articles and papers on the subject of records and information management and more lately knowledge management. He has lectured in the UK, USA, Italy, Sweden, Australia, Japan and South Africa on a wide variety of information related topics.
Amongst his other professional activities he serves as a Chairman of the ISEB FOI Examination panel and has served as Director and then Chairman of the Records Management Society (GB), he is currently President of the International Records Management Council. Philip was voted UK Records Manager of the Year 2000.
