Data Protection affects all of us whether at home or at work. This course uses practical examples and presentation to examine the Data Protection Act 1998. It is particularly useful to those new to the Act and also those who want to update with the latest decisions and guidance from both the Information Commission and the Government but is presented in a friendly way.

Specific attention is given to:-

  • The 8 Data Protection principles
  • Data sharing including the use of protocols and the secondary use of council tax data
  • Interpretation of personal data especially following the Durant ruling
  • Requests for personal data both by the individual and by other persons or organisations such as the Police
  • Relationship with other legislation especially the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • Notification and registering the intention to process personal data

Other delegates on this course have commented : "Effective training in a complex subject, well delivered","Questions are encouraged throughout the course and help readily given","Understandable explanation of the principles etc, plenty of opportunity to ask questions"
