Whilst EIR is often the forgotten legilsation it actually carries more weight than the Freedom of Information Act. This course will look at the regulations in detail, especially its relationship with FOI and other information rights legislation.

Topics will include:-

  • Definition and scope of the Regulations
  • How and when  exceptions should be applied
  • How and when to apply the public interest test
  • Looking at the comparisions with other legislation especially the Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act
  • Fees - what can be charged and when plus the Information Tribunal's view on charges
  • A look at the other requirements of the legislation such as that to hold records electronically
  • DEFRA Code of Practice
  • A need for Records Management
