The Course looks at the responsibilities under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and is directed specifically at authorising officers, designated persons and also those with responsibility for covert surviellance. It is proving particullarly popular with those organisations subject to an impending inspection by the Commissioners as certificates are provided as evidence of training. It will:-
- Give an overview of the legislation
- Look at definitions of CHIS, directed surveillance, intrusive surveillance, access to communications data
- Look at proportionality
- Consider collateral intrusion
- Look at the forms needed
- Cover the monitoring and reporting that must take place
As the main test of surveillance is the infringement of an individual's human rights the course includes an introduction to the Human Rights Act 1998.
